Priyanka Chopra- A Biography

Priyanka Chopra was born on July 18, 1982 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand in India. She is a successful model as well as an actress. Her nicknames are Sunshine, Mimi, Yanka, Priyucka Cobra. Her father Captain Dr. Ashok Chopra is a doctor and her mother Madhu Akhauri is also a doctor. Priyanka Chopra’s father is a Punjabi-Bengali-Marathi and is originally from Punjab and her mother who is a Tamil-Malayali-Kannada-Telegu, is originally from Tamil Nadu settled in Jamshedpur. Her mother belongs to a Kayastha Bihari family. Her parents are settled in Baraeilly. Priyanka Chopra has got a brother called Siddharth, who is eight years younger to her. In her childhood Priyanka Chopra has shifted to a lot of places as her father was in army. She has spent her childhood in many places such as in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Newton, Massachusetts and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Priyanka Chopra studied in St. Maria Goretti School in Bareilly and then from La Martinière in Lucknow and for further education she went to United States and was enrolled as a student of Newton North High School in Newton, Massachusetts and North Delta Senior Secondary School in North Delta. Priyanka returned back to India and completed her high school from Army School in Rae Bareilly. Priyanka Chopra completed her tenth standard in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and started dreaming of a career as a software Engineer or a Criminal Psychologist. Priyanka Chopra then joined Jai Hind College in Mumbai but soon after she left the college as she had already won the Miss World Pageant. This 5 ft. 7 1/2" actress loves to wear sarees.

Priyanka Chopra won the Miss World Pageant in the year 2000. As a debutant her first film was Anil Sharma's The Hero: Love Story of a Spy(2003). Her second film was Andaaz which was a hit and it was for this film that she won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. In 2004 she was cast in the film Aitraaz directed by Abbas-Mustan, where she played a negative role and in turn won the Filmfare Best Villain Award. In the year 2004 she also appeared in films like Plan, Kismat, Asambhav and Mujhse Shadi Karogi. In 2005 there was another series of movies that she came up with including Blackmail, Karam, Waqt: The Race Against Time, Yakeen, Bluffmaster and Barsaat. 2006 was another successful year for Priyanka Chopra as she it was this year that one of her biggest blockbuster movie “Krrish” released. This followed by other movies which were commercially very successful such as Aap Ki Khatir and Don- The Chase Begins Again. Salaame Ishq: A Tribute to Love and Big Brother and big Brother were two films which increased her popularity in the year 2007, but both these movies failed to gain popularity in the box office.

Priyanka Chopra is awaiting three releases at the beginning of the year 2008 which includes Drona, God Tussi Great Ho and Love Story 2050. When she won the Miss world crown in the year 2000 she became the fifth Indian woman to win the Miss World title. Not only this, Priyanka Chopra was the fourth Indian to win this title within a time span of 7 years. In the beginning of her career she was first featured in a Tamil Film called Thamizhan in the year 2002. The Hero: Love Story of a Spy came after this film and became one of the highest earning films of that year. She was nominated as the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her film Andaaz opposite Akshay Kumar. She was nominated for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her acting in the ilm Aitraaz. Priyanka Chopra was the part of the world tour called Temptations 2004 with other big stars of Bollywood like Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, Arjun Rampal and Rani Mukherji.


Priyanka Chopra likes music and dance. Her hobbies are writing poems, reading short stories especially biographies of various legends. She is an active social worker. She is the only Indian in United States of America to be selected in the National Opus Honor Choir at the state level who does extensive work charity work in U.S.A and India. Priyanka Chopra is also the ambassador for CAF and CII in their literacy program.
