Bipasha Basu, the famous Bollywood actress, has already secured a place for herself in the exclusive list of Bollywood divas. Bipasha was born in New Delhi, India, on 7th January, 1979. She belongs to a Bengali family. Her parents have three daughters of whom Bipasha is the middle one. Her elder sister is Bidisha while the younger one is Vijayeta. Bipasha’s father is a civil engineer by profession while her mother is a housewife. Inspite of being born in Delhi, Bipasha along with her entire family later came to Kolkata and settled there.
Bipasha’s entry into modelling happened by chance, because her primary plan was to pursue a career in medicine. But she changed her decision due to her disliking for dissection of animals. She studied science till the 12th standard and then shifted to the commerce stream and earned the degree of Bachelor's of Commerce.
Then she entered the field of chartered accountancy. But in the year 1996, she met the distinguished model Mehr Jessia in Kolkata who recommended that Basu should take part in the Supermodel of the World contest. This contest, where she emerged as the winner, changed her life.
When Bipasha won the Ford Godrej Cinthol contest to be India's contender for Supermodel of the World competition, she was taken to New York by the Ford Company, where she began her career as a model and achieved great success. She also won the Tulip Miss Super Vivacious contest in 1996. Her debut venture in Bollywood was in the year 2001 in the film Ajnabee, a thriller directed by Abbas- Mustan. In this film she worked with actors like Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol and Kareena Kapoor.
Apart from Ajnabee, Bipasha’s career in Bollywood includes the films Raaz (2002, which was a huge success), Chor Machaaye Shor (2002), Gunaah (2002), Jism (2003, where Bipasha again plays a negative character), Footpath (2003), Zameen (2003), Ishq Hai Tumse (2004), Rakht (2004), Madhoshi (2004), Aetbaar (2004), Rudraksh (2004), Chehraa (2005), Barsaat (2005), No Entry (2005), Apaharan (2005), Shikhar (2005), Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye (2006), Darna Zaroori Hai (2006), Phir Hera Pheri (2006), Corporate (2006), Jaane Hoga Kya (2006), Dhoom 2 (2006), Nehlle Pe Dehlla (2007) and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal (2007).
She has also made special appearances in the films Aankhen, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, Rules - Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula, Viruddh, Alag, Omkara (where she earned immense acclaimation in the item song “Beedi”), No Smoking and Om Shanti Om.
Moreover, Bipasha’s career also includes two Telugu films--- Takkari Donga and Sachein Manju. Her upcoming Bollywood projects are Race and Pankh. In addition to acting, she worked in the video "Tu" for Sonu Nigam's album, Kismat and made a special appearance in Jay Sean’s music video Stolen.
